There's a basic difference in the method of thinking we of today use as against that used a millennium or more ago. It's remarkably hard to spot - because we assume that, of course, everybody always thought this way, didn't they . . .
This book is a lot about "coming of age'. I wanted to share things I experienced back then with you. It will be of a lot of interest to those who have ever had a loved one in a nursing facility. I really hope you find it an enjoyable read. The voices, laughter and stories shared with me during my time working with the elderly still resonates in my head all these years later. I want to share them in this book. There are many, many more wonderful things to tell about those days. This book only scratches the surface.
It is important to emphasize the gendered nature of these dominant ideologies regarding reproductive labor. The work on gamete donation is helpful here, as it offers a gender comparison of reproductive workers in ways that surrogacy ...

While the practice of surrogacy has existed for millennia, new fertility technologies have allowed women to act as gestational surrogates, carrying children that are not genetically their own. While some women volunteer to act as gestational surrogates for friends or family members, others get paid for performing this service. The first ethnographic study of gestational surrogacy in the United States, Labor of Love examines the conflicted attitudes that emerge when the ostensibly priceless act of bringing a child into the world becomes a paid occupation. Heather Jacobson interviews not only surrogate mothers, but also their family members, the intended parents who employ surrogates, and the various professionals who work to facilitate the process. Seeking to understand how gestational surrogates perceive their vocation, she discovers that many regard surrogacy as a calling, but are reluctant to describe it as a job. In the process, Jacobson dissects the complex set of social attitudes underlying this resistance toward conceiving of pregnancy as a form of employment. Through her extensive field research, Jacobson gives readers a firsthand look at the many challenges faced by gestational surrogates, who deal with complicated medical procedures, delicate work-family balances, and tricky social dynamics. Yet Labor of Love also demonstrates the extent to which advances in reproductive technology are affecting all Americans, changing how we think about maternity, family, and the labor involved in giving birth. This book was inspired by the life of my mom and dad. These are the recipes that I used to cook for my parents when I took care of them in our home in Pawleys Island, SC the last 2 and 4 years of their lives, respectively. I tried to cook a variety of different cuisines and as a result amassed a sizable list of recipes. This book represents what I consider their favorites. My parents loved Pawleys Island so I included some pictures that represent the Pawleys Island that they loved and in doing so I believe add to your pleasure of leafing through the book and making it a coffee table piece.

A LABOR OF LOVE; Weaving Your Own Virgin Birth on the Loom of Life continues the metaphysical mediation of life, once again featuring Christo Sahbays, the itinerant metaphysician who infills with heart wisdom, igniting inspiration in those who have ears and want now to hear, and eyes who want now to see. This second entry in the author's new MY SPIRITUAL AWARENESS SERIES is a heartfelt extension of its predecessor that takes the reader to the divine Essence each is in order to encourage letting go of, or forgiving, those childhood images that are the warp upon which our history has been woven time and again. When the freedom to just be what we always have been, are, and always will be quickens our Spirit, we come at last to embrace our own divinity, which then leads us to embrace the divinity all of life so beautifully just Is. This second offering in the MY SPIRITUAL AWARENESS SERIES stems from the first--. A third in the series, KEYS TO THE DOOR OF TRUTH; Metaphysical Musings of a Born-Yet-Again, leads to future writings that will deal with such topics as the metaphysical meaning of Jesus and his disciples, the Sermon on the Mount, some of the various "newfound" Gospels, and those portions of the remaining three Gospels that do not replicate the content of the Gospel of John--all placed in a practical perspective.

"Prisons and Prayer; Or, a Labor of Love" by Elizabeth Ryder Wheaton is a tale of evangelistic work in prisons. Nearly all of its inhabitants are prisoners surrounded by walls of sin and darkness. Many are bound down by the curse of rum, others by the besetting sins of lust, unholy temper, envy, revenge, malice, hatred, jealousy, prejudice, pride, covetousness, or selfishness resulting from a carnal mind. Out of the vast multitudes that are led captive by the devil at his will, a few that have violated human law have been sentenced to various prisons and reformatories. This book has much to say about the men and women behind prison walls. It records the sad story of many prisoners in a way that very few can read without being moved to tears and that will awaken sympathy in the hardest hearts.
